Choosing Tea When You Are Sensitive to Caffeine

Caffeine sensitivity can show up as restlessness, palpitations, stomach discomfort or a late bedtime. A good product page should make the tea base obvious before you click.

Learn the base categories

Black, green, white, oolong and pu-erh teas come from Camellia sinensis and naturally contain caffeine. Most pure herbal infusions do not, though blends can combine both.

Decaf is not zero

Decaffeination reduces caffeine but may not remove all of it. People who need strict avoidance should look for a clear caffeine-free statement and verify ingredients.

Count the cup you actually brew

Large mugs, double tea bags and long steeps can change exposure. Product comparisons should include serving directions, not only a badge.

Use timing before buying another supplement

Moving a caffeinated tea earlier may solve an ordinary preference issue. Persistent palpitations or severe symptoms need medical attention.
