Herbal Tea During Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
Pregnancy is not the time to assume that a familiar kitchen herb is harmless at any dose. Food use, occasional tea and concentrated extract are different exposures.
Caffeine adds up across the day
Coffee, green tea, black tea, chocolate and some medicines all contribute caffeine. Check the total rather than evaluating one cup in isolation.
“Pregnancy tea” is still a formula
A reassuring product name does not replace ingredient-by-ingredient review. Some botanicals have limited pregnancy safety data or traditional uses that raise concern.
Licorice and extracts deserve caution
Natural licorice and concentrated herbal extracts should be discussed with an obstetric professional. The amount in a blend may be unclear.
Breastfeeding is a separate question
Transfer into milk, infant age and maternal dose vary. A product considered during pregnancy is not automatically appropriate while breastfeeding.
Frequently asked questions
Is caffeine-free the same as pregnancy-safe?
No. Other ingredients still matter.
Can I rely on Amazon reviews from pregnant users?
No. Reviews are personal experiences, not individualized safety assessment.
